Umm Ayman was born in Malmö, Sweden. She studied Physics in Stockholm, and holds a PhD in experimental Fluid Dynamics. Alongside with her career in Research and Development, she visited Damascus for long periods during the years 2002 to 2010, studying under the direction of Shaykh Muhammad al-Yaqoubi (may Allah preserve him for the benefit of the Ummah), and travelling with him to many other places. In Damascus, she studied Arabic with Ustadha Sana Kharza; Tajweed with female students of Sh. Shukri al-Lahafi and Muhammad Sukkar; Hanafi Fiqh with a female teacher of al-Fath and student of Shaykh Hussam al-Farfur; Hadith, Aqida and Tasawwuf with Shaykh Muhammad al-Yaqoubi – may Allah preserve them all and keep them in His Rahma.
She was blessed to hear Shaykh Muhammad al-Yaqoubi (may Allah spread the perfume in his gatherings) reciting in full the Sahih collections of Imam al-Bukhari and Imam Muslim, Sunan al-Tirmidhi, Sunan Abi Dawud, and Riyad al-Salihin, and was given ijaza by him for the works of Mustalah al-Hadith of Imam al-Nawawi. She also heard in-depth commentaries from him on many valuable books such as the Shama’il of Imam al-Tirmidhi, al-Shifa of Qadi ‘Iyad, Sharh al-Sanusiyya of Imam al-Desouqi, the Risala of Imam al-Qushayri, Qasida Burda of Imam al-Busiri, Qawa’id al-Tasawwuf of Imam Ahmad Zarruq (may Allah be pleased with them all), books of Sufi Adab, Sufi poetry and more.
She was given the undeserved honour of sharing the gracious company of the wives and family of Shaykh Muhammad al-Yaqoubi and rendering them small services, not worth mentioning per se, were they not the door to all openings. She was given the favour of frequent visits to the gem in the crown of Abdal, Shaykh Shukri al-Lahafi (may Allah elevate his rank), and the family of the great Shadhili Master Sayyiduna Shaykh Muhammad al-Tayyib al-Hasani (may Allah sanctify his secrets and allow his states to guide all seekers). She also had the honour of meeting Shaykh Abdur-Rahman al-Shaghouri (may Allah enlighten his blessed grave on al-Qasyoun) and attending his hadras, Shaykh Salim al-Hammami (may Allah expand his blessed resting place in the Illuminated City) and many other luminaries – alive above and beneath the earth.
